Bifold Doors FAQs
What exactly are bifold doors?
Bifold doors are made up of several glass panels connected by heavy-duty hinges. When you open them, the panels slide along a top or bottom track and fold flat against each other—very much like an accordion. They allow you to turn an entire wall into a wide-open passage to the outdoors.
What is the biggest benefit of choosing a bifold door?
The absolute biggest advantage is maximum opening space. Unlike sliding doors, which always leave a portion of the opening blocked by glass, bifold doors fold completely away to the side. They let you open up roughly 90% or more of the entire doorway, giving you a flawless transition between your indoor and outdoor living areas.
Do they require a lot of space when they fold up?
The panels do stack together, but they take up surprisingly little room. You can choose whether you want the doors to fold and stack inside the house or outside on your patio or deck. When fully folded, they sit neatly out of the traffic path, resting perpendicular to the frame.
Are bifold doors heavy or difficult to slide open?
Not at all. Even though they are built with thick, secure glass and solid frames, they slide effortlessly. At A1, we use precision-balanced roller systems that distribute the weight evenly along the track, meaning you can glide the entire wall of doors open with a gentle push from just a couple of fingers.
How secure and weather-resistant are they?
They are incredibly tough. Our bifold doors feature advanced multi-point locking mechanisms that lock the panels into the frame at the top, bottom, and center all at once. For weatherproofing, they use heavy-duty compression seals between every single panel, ensuring that heavy wind, pouring rain, and drafts stay completely outside.
